Prospective Students

Jennifer and student
I am equally comfortable teaching very young beginners, collegiate and professional level adults.  Currently, I teach children and adults of all ages (currently 6 to 92) in my Ballard home.

Lessons are 30, 45, or 60 minutes.  Lessons are generally 45 minutes, although very young beginners may opt for 30 minutes, and more advanced students often prefer an hour.

Cost is $40 for 30 minutes, $60 for 45 minutes, and $80 per hour.

I always provide a first free lesson for us to both to meet.

I have a BA in Music from Western Washington University, a MA in Piano Performance from Arizona State University, and a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Washington.  As a member of the Seattle Music Teacher’s Association, I have greatly enhanced my teaching by attending workshops and meetings.  As an adjudicator, I not only have the opportunity to “give back” to the community, but I also gain inspiration by observing some fine teachers and students around the state. In the last several years, I have dived into the study of the Taubman technique which both prevents and alleviates injuries sustained by musicians. This revolutionary approach to technique has not only changed my own playing, but has given me insight to help students play with greater ease and freedom.  I delight in solving and teaching challenging piano technique.

I love teaching.  I love to see students talents soar, and skills of body, mind, and heart ever growing.  I try to find a balance between leading students to ever higher and greater levels of music where they really learn how to work and apply themselves to challenges, while helping them reap their rewards by knowing their own strength and success deep within themselves.  My greatest hope for my students is that they love making music, and that they find the piano to be a favorite tool of their own expression.
